As Leyli Art Association, we invite you to embark on a profound journey into the world of literature with our new event series titled “Novels of Time.” In this series, we will explore contemporary works of the 21st century, offering participants the opportunity to delve into literary depth and share diverse perspectives through interactive discussions focused on a modern novel chosen each month.

These gatherings will be held on the last Saturday of each month, from 15:00 to 17:00 at our Leyli Art Association office. Our aim is to build bridges between communities through the universal language of literature, while also providing a platform for individuals to express themselves. This event will be an inspiring space for both literature enthusiasts and those eager to discover new authors.

October 2024: Beloved – Toni Morrison

Book: Beloved by Toni Morrison is a powerful novel that won the Pulitzer Prize. It tells the story of a mother who escapes slavery, struggling with the heavy burden of the past and a world filled with ghosts. As Sethe carries the scars of slavery, she also confronts her roles as a mother and a woman. December 2024: The Human Stain – Philip Roth

Book: The Human Stain by Philip Roth is the final installment of his American Trilogy. The novel tells the story of Professor Coleman Silk, whose career is destroyed by a misunderstood word. The book delves into issues of race, identity, and moral values in American society. Roth’s characters confront social prejudices and personal tragedies in this powerful narrative.

January 2025: Outline – Rachel Cusk

February 2025: A Manual for Cleaning Women – Lucia Berlin

Berlin’s stories focus on ordinary people’s lives and disappointments, delivered with a powerful and poignant style. The book gained widespread acclaim after Berlin’s death and is now considered one of the most important works in contemporary literature.

Author: Lucia Berlin, born in 1936, was an American short story writer. Despite having a small, dedicated following during her lifetime, she gained literary fame posthumously with the publication of A Manual for Cleaning Women in 2015. March 2025: The Return – Hisham Matar
