Films from the World

As Leyli Art Association, we believe in the universal power of art and its potential to build bridges between societies. With this belief, we are launching our new project, the “Films from the World” cinema club series, opening the doors to world cinema!

Purpose of the Series: Discovering Cultures Through Cinema

The “Films from the World” event series is organized with the aim of making the art of cinema accessible to everyone and celebrating cultural diversity. Cinema is a universal art form that effectively expresses human emotions, societal structures and cultural heritage. With this series, we aim to explore different cultures through films selected from various countries around the world, sharing the transformative power of cinema with participants. Each month, we will focus on the cinema of a different country, watching films that shed light on the social structures, artistic traditions and historical processes of these countries.

Our Goals: A Cinematic Movement Bridging Art and Culture

  • Introducing World Cinema: Bringing films from different cultures around the world to participants.
  • Fostering Intercultural Dialogue: Through post-screening analysis and discussions, gaining insights into different cultures and promoting cultural exchange.
  • Making Art Accessible to Everyone: Providing an open platform for everyone interested in cinema, from directors to screenwriters, art enthusiasts to students.
  • Inspiring Creative Film Projects: Encouraging and supporting cinephiles to bring their own film projects to life through screenings and workshops.
  • Reaching All Parts of Society: Offering a safe and supportive platform for anyone who wants to express themselves through cinema.

Event Content: A Different Country’s Cinema Each Month

Our event series will focus on the cinema of a different country each month, from October 2024 to June 2025, spanning nine months. The selected films will reflect the cultural and historical characteristics of each country and offer diverse perspectives on cinema. After each film screening, we will delve into both the film and the societal dynamics of the respective country through analysis and open discussions.

Here are the countries and the general themes of the films that will be featured in the “Films from the World” series:

  • October 2024 – Italy: Italian Neorealism and working-class life.
  • November 2024 – Japan: Narratives about family structures and human relationships in Japanese cinema.
  • December 2024 – Iran: The minimalism of Iranian cinema and its deep human analyses.
  • January 2025 – Russia: The philosophical depth and war themes in Russian cinema.
  • February 2025 – France: French New Wave and artistic approaches to love and relationships.
  • March 2025 – India: The rich cinematic culture and social dynamics of India.
  • April 2025 – Brazil: Social justice and urban life in Brazilian cinema.
  • May 2025 – Egypt: Historical dramas and societal structures in Egyptian cinema.
  • June 2025 – South Korea: Tension and social critique in South Korean cinema.

Each film selection will be no longer than 100 minutes and will cover different genres and storytelling styles. This way, participants will have the opportunity to experience the creative diversity in world cinema by watching works from a wide range of films.

Everyone Will Be Drawn to Cinema!

The “Films from the World” event series offers an open platform not only for cinephiles but for anyone interested in discovering art. In addition to film screenings, we will offer workshops and seminars where you can enhance your knowledge and skills in the art of cinema and find an environment where you can work on creative projects. By working together on film projects, we offer a collaborative space where you can receive support in all stages, from scriptwriting to the shooting process. Through this event series, you can gain new perspectives on cinema and experience the unifying power of art.
